I loved your article!

I did not know there was an uproar about Flash?...

It's still in use on most websites though, so wouldn't Apple want to make the iPad 100% internet compatible by allowing Flash?

That kind of shoots them in the foot don't ya think?

A bigger screen means bigger movies. i.e. Movies on websites which are Flash! urgg.... I love Apple products, It's ok for my phone to have no flash... Although extremely annoying... But the iPad which is to take the "Full" Internet onto its beautiful screen?

I'll buy it after they add flash to it... Not till then..

Thanks for the great article!

Terrific post Eugene. You hit the nail on the head in every way, including your assessment of the criticism being thrown at the iPad (especially Flash, I think it's a great move not to support it).

@GuruBob and I had a long chat (debrief I guess you could call it), after we'd both had enough time to consume both the keynote address and a large chunk of what others were saying about the device. Our conclusions were pretty damn close to yours. I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it, and I'm pretty sure that once it's released and in the wild it'll be this hands on experience that really shows how impressive the iPad actually is.

And to ask the question on the tips of many tongues, so, when will we see Market Samurai on the iPad? Even if it's just to maintain and check exisiting projects and leave the initial heavy lifting to the desktop version.

Cheers,
Nez

Hi Eugene,

great post!! Indeed one of the very best reflections on the iPad I've seen.

I think the iPad could initiate a change, a revolution, in how we interact with computers. It shows: it CAN be that easy - iWork shows it IS possible. I guess more and more people will want that. And I think we're right!! (Well, even operating cars these days is way easier than in those times when you had to crank and were in need of tools most every day.)

Yep, many many baby boomers (and older) will love this style. If only it could connect to a printer (or can it?)...

Hmmm... this got me excited: "reformulate our business strategy to recognise this new platform"... got me thinking, "Market Samurai on an iPad...?!?!?" What an asset that would be! Other than that I need email and internet when I'm on the road. Some iWork. Need hardly anything else that the iPad doesn't do. ...Market Samurai... hmmm...

Oh, and I find Phill's vision very appealing, too!! Makes for a "Brighter Day" :)

As for some of the lamented shortcomings of the iPad - this v1 is definitely not the last word, as many have already stated. And I guess for some things Apple, not unlike Google, has its special opinion on what "good user experience" is. Browser crashes for example might not be part of that.

Not everyone, though, will agree with Apple. That hasn't stopped them in the past. Not from going ahead, not from innovating, not from growing, not from being incredibly successful, and making admirable profits. Yes, and gorgeous products.

It will be exciting to see how this unfolds.

Thanks again, Eugene.

Hi,
I must be missing something ? I looked through the launch page and the $499 version has only 16 GB of disk space. My laptop has 360 GB and filling rapidly.
Surely, this places big restrictions on what you can do with the iPad ?

Hi Eugene,
Nicely detailed post,

I particularly liked your comments on Apple's position of control and dictatorship. But I respectfully submit that your position on Flash is misplaced.

I've seen more than my fair-share of ugly flash sites by amateur developers that loaded so much content that it brought my browser to a crawl and those poorly built sites deserve our ire. But Rich Internet Experiences are the future of the web. Flash and possibly even Microsoft's silverlight are going to be used even more than they ever have before.

I can't agree on the "HTML 5 as a solution to it all" position either. Wikipedia has it as at least two years out and 11 years out as a standard. That puts it as years out before anyone even begins to develop to the standard. Spend some time in the developer blogs No web developers today are making plans to scrap their Flash in favor of HTML 5.

But getting back to my Apple-despot soapbox, I can accept that flash may not run on my iphone. It's small and under-powered for the task. But for Apple to exclude it from the IPad only proves that they've become what they once loathed.

And before anyone writes me off as just some flash loving mac hater. Know that I develop IPhone apps and waited in line to buy one of the first iPhones the day they came out.

Something I won't be doing for the IPad.

Best Regards,
Paul

Hi Eugene, cracking post mate, really enjoyed it, although I felt it could have been a tad longer :)

Seriously though, like you, I'm likely to be purchasing a couple of these, perhaps even 3 or 4 around the home as I can see my family using them not only as intended, but also for home automation control.

I've used computer touchscreens for control of home devices on stands and on the wall for many years now, for both myself and for my clients, but when the ipod/iphone came along, this changed everything.

The only restriction to the smaller screens of the ipod touch, was simply that, the small screen. With the arrival of the iPad @ 1024 x 768 it has introduced a plethora of new control interfaces not only for daily computing use, but also in industries perhaps less obvious to them, like Home Automation.

I'm really looking forward to designing some iPad-friendly control interfaces for hand-held control of lighting, hvac and whole-house audio & video. Just need a slick, Jedi programmer, how ya fixed Eugene? :)

Exciting times ahead and I'm glad to be in the mix.

All the Best

Great post Eugene. Well thought out and nicely pit.

I think Apple's biggest win in the announcement was the out-of-the-side-of-the-mouth mention that they are bringing back in house the production of the Apple innards. Nice move to keep costs and timings in Apple control. Not sure how Apple will run with pricing however, they never have to be the cheapest to make sales.

I've made it quite clear I won't be buying one (even though I am a rampant early-adopter). I just can't see myself using it...much like Apple TV ... or that wheely thing that was going to take the world by storm..what was it called? Nice ideas, but just not enough to lay out the cash to experience.

See you around v2 and I may have changed my mind.

Of course, as we all know, if you’re an affiliate, none of these formulas apply to you. An extremely high CTR and page after page of unique, custom written content, along with very high keyword / ad text / landing page relevancy doesn’t mean a thing if Google decides they don’t like you.

He should start the video by saying “These formulas only apply if we decide we like you”
